Are you sure? I think the scene cut away just before Cliff said, “Over! (beep) Ksshhhhkkk!” and then stuffed the potato back in his pocket.

He is actually using a older version than Brewster - he is using a rock. Probably works by throwing it at the person you want to talk with.

I LOVE this series.

Some enterprising person should make a daily cartoon of this type taking the latest politician (or star or sports person) with their statement, then translating it to what they are really saying. That would be great.

Roger: I’m pretty sure that “Shoe” used to have such a running gag (perhaps back in the days when editorial cartoonist Jeff MacNelly drew it)–Senator Belfry would be giving a speech, and there’d be another podium next to his labeled “Translation,” where a smaller bird would explain what the Senator really meant (in much the manner of the “Brewster Rockit” strips).

Don’t know if the current “Shoe” cartoonists are continuing the gag, though. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it.

I activate the shields and cloaking device when I spot the Jehovah’s Witnesses coming up the driveway. But it only works if you’re very very quiet (and patient.)
