I do a lot of work with the DoD… and the only translation I’ve learned is that when they talk about being a team player, it means the project is going to be done their way OR ELSE. Even if it costs several million dollars more than it needs to, and doesn’t do the job it was originally intended to do. sigh
They also use such language in the engineering departments of every version of the U.S.S. Enterprise I’ve ever seen. In fact, the language in all three panels is virtually straight citation of one episode/movie or another of Star Trek.
Dr. Who, indeed. Nobody can reverse polarities on whatever gizmo you’re talking about better than Montgomery Scott or Geordi LaForge.
Scotty said he multiplied his repair estimates by a factor of four to maintain his reputation as a miracle worker…but I bet it was really meant to give him some room for error!

Do they sell translation devices for real life? Where can I get one?
Pacejv about 15 years ago
I’d opt for the giztookanah ray gun.

Yes, Jukofurl, I’d like to see that too. Who cares about the techno stuff, any time I see Pam, I’m happy.

Does it help to reverse the polarity by having Brewster use the instrument panel upside down?

Juke, yeah, look at all the babes in panel three. That’s gotta be a record. For all I know, that’s the whole female crew.
I think the usual blond chick should have a name. I mean, look at the size of her waist!
The brunette in the back ground? A good bureaucrat, even under alien attack, the paper work must go on…

Let’s see. If we put our engines in reverse, it might overload their weapons. Yep, nonsense.
Sherlock Watson about 15 years ago
If you shift into reverse, it’ll flood the engine. It’s a really old station.
