Those planets are infered by how their revolutions affect the position of their sun.As the position of the sun shifts, it affects (slightly) the frequency (wavelength) of its emitted light.Then, to compound the problem, we are observing this shift from a moving platform, ie our rotating Earth revolving around our Sun – and it revolving around the center of the local galaxy!These measurements would be hopeless without computers.

Tian Ho does not have his eyes closed when cutting hair. His eyes are just that narrow – he is Chinese, remember?
