Well, depending on the anthromorphic cartoon animal they can and do get away with indecent exposure by just wearing a few pieces of clothing. Or no clothing at all.

So Cap takes his costume off once a year. And then he takes a bath, whether he needs one or not.

Once a year he has it sandblasted. That’s the super hero version of dry cleaning.
