Someone said it best on the Spanish version- it’s a gift, not a job. Sergio is wise because he realises early that he will only have maybe 10 years to decorate the tree with Gracie and be her “Papi” before she’s too old and he’s “mi padre” and she rolls her eyes. He knows an opportunity to treasure. You know even when she is 50 and he is 70, they will remember this night all the more because it was ridiculous to decorate at night, and laugh about it and love each other. I like to think Tia Carmen will bring in the cookies soon and join them.
I do the hard job of going into the attic and bringing everything down, setting up the tree and stringing the lights. Wife get’s to decorate it. I finished a few nights ago, except for needing another string. As of right now, the tree is still sitting in a corner un-decorated.
