Newborn babies can only see in black and white! ? Modern scientific understanding accounts for just 4% of the matter in the universe! Kristin Lane, from San Antonio, Texas, can rotate her legs 180 degrees!
Today is the birthday of the newspaper cartoonist and founder of Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, Robert Ripley born LeRoy Ripley in Santa Rosa, California (1890). While still a teen, he had his artwork published in national magazines like Life. He dropped out of high school and headed to New York where he took a job as a sports columnist. On a slow news day, he drew up a cartoon of rare and strange sports that proved to be more popular than his regular writing. He ran with it, and his new “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!” column for the New York Post covered all manner of strange and unusual facts. He was soon syndicated and hired a full-time fact-checker who worked 10-hour days immersed in the stacks of the New York Public Library. Ripley was flamboyant and traveled the world on research trips. He opened museums of the strange, called “Odditoriums,” around the country and had a popular radio show throughout the 1940s…
Webster’s definition of the Universe —All matter and energy, including the earth, the galaxies, and the contents of intergalactic space, regarded as a whole.
I agree with you! Then I thought that they would have some scientific test that they believe (ie. have “faith”) that would "prove"it. I thinki it is interesting that on Christmas day this is what is included. Athiests say with pride they don’t believe unless it is scientifically proven and then proceed to believe that the scientific experiments which many of us don’t understand tyake as fact and proof. Now we see that science can only understand 4% of the matter in the universe.
The babies – IIRC some structures in the eye see color, some just see b/w… rods and cones, forget which saw which. Maybe the ones that perceive color develop later? They ,ay know from physiology?
The dogs may just perceive shades of gray, it is one an either/or
Whatever “account for” might mean. Astrophysicists can “account for” 96% of matter in the universe by measuring the speed of rotation of the galaxies versus the mass of the galaxies. That’s the physical, measurable evidence, unlike the supposed evidence for immaterial, undetectable phantasmagoria.
Let me add that astrophysicists do understand that there is indeed a certain measured amount of matter/energy in the universe around galaxies and in intergalactic space, but they aren’t currently sure exactly what this matter consists of.
gmartin, it works like this:Highly respected scientist, “New born baby, do you only see things in black and white?”New born baby, “Goo.” Which is international baby talk for “yes”.

Has there been a case of someone seeing B&W for the rest of their life?

A very good point indeed. And which particular newborn confirmed it to them?

I know it’s a fact. I saw it in black and white!

What’s ‘the matter’ with science?

@SeaFox10.Recent studies have found that dogs do see colors; it’s just that they see a narrower band of color then we do…
