‘Agnes’ is one of my favourites and I’ll check again later so that I don’t miss what everyone has to say. All you ‘regulars’ in the comment section are like club members… You all seem to know (and mostly like) each other and make reading the comics strips much more fun. Thanks, and a Happy New Year to you all.
“Christmas is just two days past, and already Agnes is depressed. She’s just not of this world!”-Come now, let us be honest. There is much depression around Christmas. People know they are supposed to be happy but often aren’t. They know they are supposed to be with family but often can’t stand each other. They spent much time and money on gifts the other person didn’t want or appreciate.-“And so, this is Christmas, and what have we done?Another year older, a new one just begunAnd so, happy Christmas, I hope you have funThe near and the dear ones, the old and the youngA merry, merry Christmas and a Happy New YearLet’s hope it’s a good one, without any fears "-Hmmm, too late for that.
Hmmmmm…… gooshy or crisp bacon? I don’t have greasy bacon. Grannie – let Agnes have some tea made with loose tea leaves….. then let her read her destiny. .Know I’m late – but the computer I’m using is ……old & sloooow. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
As for her “depression”… I don’t think she’s depressed.
She’s a wild dreamer, but also very self-contained in her little chrysalis of self-protection.
She already knows that everything goes wrong outside it….she’s poor, unpopular, and can’t catch a break…but her attitude keeps her safe, and she still expects to emerge as a sparkly butterfly one day.To me, her statement is more impatient than depressed. She wants her gossamer wings sooner, not later.

to pin down your destiny, you must first find your fingers

Granny the Stoic. She learned some years back that her destiny is not to have a destiny.

Good point Granny but destiny can be pretty slippery by itself.

I think Agnes must lick her fingers, then she would know the answer to Granny’s wise question and will help set her on the path to enlightenment.

Granny is so funny.
Myself, I’d be tempted to say…“Well, Agnes…. get a grip.”
