Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for December 31, 2012
Transcript:
Rick: Thought I'd go over to Politics and Prose today... Joanie: What's going on there? Rick: Jeff's got a book signing. I'm curious about his readers. I mean, who exactly turns out for a Red Rascal book signing? Jeff: So, who's this to? Man: Blue Bandit. We're like colleagues, man.

Dang reruns. We all know this career fizzled. He should be signing books at Rock-Bottom Remainders.
Linguist almost 12 years ago
Rerun maybe, but it brings back the idiocy of book signings. Amazing the “fans” who crawl out of the woodwork…

Blue Bandet does in Iraq what Red Rascal does in Afghanistan?
DylanThomas3.14159 almost 12 years ago
The arc’s definitely a rerun. I remember it. But it was so good — what with Trudeau’s sendup of San Diego’s Comic-Con costumes and all — that I don’t mind the repetition. Like re-reading a good book.
Here’s a New Year’s Eve toast hoping for a new Doonesbury arc, one about the “fiscal cliff”!

Enough book buyers for author Jeff’s royalties to make a down payment on a mega-estate, a new Porsche and who knows what else. He’d also have to have enough skin in the game to meet the credit checks. A best seller, just not a long-term best-seller.

I see that racism is alive and well in some parts of our dear country.

I’m sure all your little fanboys will like to know that your book is available at imidiot.com and flea markets throughout the country.

I suspect you will be told to go to the first four letters of your name unless this is meant to be ironic. Then you have my permission to giggle all the way.
jeffiekins almost 12 years ago
@Thirdguy, do you know what racism means? Or is it just “anything I don’t like.” If you like strawberry, is someone liking blueberry racist? Stupidity (or satire of it) is not racism. Being a redneck isn’t racist, either. Thinking the U.S. is the best country goin’ isn’t racist, either, UNLESS you only think so because the President is black, or you think it stopped being that way because he is.
I work with a bunch of rednecks, some of whom are black. They go to the shooting range with the white rednecks at lunch time. All the rednecks join in teasing us “city folk” and “Yankees,” good-naturedly. You might be a little better informed if you actually knew a redneck (instead of a Hollywood writer’s idea of a “funny” redneck).

On New Year’s Eve, a prayer for Hillary: get better soon!

If Obama is anti-gay, he has a funny way of showing it. He has supported gay rights more than any other president. The law is a bit more complex than some may imagine. Also, he is a president, not a king. People have to work with him, at least a little bit, in order to get things done.
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
I wouldn’t look to Obama to reform drug laws. You can keep beating that dead horse if you want to, but I think he can only go so far with repealing marijuana laws.
kaffekup almost 12 years ago
OK, that’s it. Now he’s gone too far. I will never, ever, vote for that man again!

“If Jeff milks this right he will have his toys back soon.”
For an author he’s young yet. And his Random House editor Becca Bickle is on his case to write another. The guy’s not without talent, and we shouldn’t sell him short."

Jeff wants to return to the ’20s when…adventures were possible on a low budget. Or even the 60s. Ever notice how “out of time” and “fish out of water” action heroes are?
Drones and cellphones and implants etc have made individual initiative of that kind sooooo obsolete…
kaffekup almost 12 years ago
Absolutely not, as apparently you are not, and won’t even be here long enough to read this.

Let’s hope that 2013 brings a revelation to the wing nuts and that they repent their ignorance and folly so that America can again be proud of what we do to help the needy, the poor, and the sick. If we use our common sense we can undo the damage from the haters and make ourselves even greater. My recommended resolution for 2013: NO MORE FOX ‘news’

I think there is always some ego involved when anyone seeks an office like President of the US… It is a bit unfair to single out anyone as being full of themselves unless you attribute the same trait to everyone who has ever run for POTUS… At the same time, if they had so desired, those who participated in the Gallup Poll could have chosen any of those many other individuals who ran for POTUS, aside from Obama and Clinton— but they didn’t. They chose Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

“… sarcasm does not go over well here at GoComics.”
RU possibly conflating “sarcasm” with “satire”? These words have two different meanings.
alviebird almost 12 years ago
Edited (and thus, now out of order):
Boy, sarcasm satire does not go over well here at GoComics. And then there are those who apparently miss punctuation marks, completely changing the meaning of what they read. (I’m referring to a post of mine on FBOFW. Someone thinks I wanted, out of mean spirited-ness, for the angel to NOT be replaced.)
Hers’s a clue (please, get a clue): If something posted seems outrageous, please carefully re-read it before getting your knickers in a twist. Instead of embracing your outrage, first look at what you have read with an eye towards your having possibly misunderstood it.

Good news for Hillary— although she has a blood clot between her brain and skull— she did not have neurological damage according to her docs. Apparently, she had another clot behind her knee several years ago and she fully recovered from it as well.
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
Maybe we should resolve to cut each other some slack in the new year. We all make mistakes.
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
I have not really seen Obama or Clinton as being people who destroyed everyone who was a threat to them. Yes, Obama won the election in 2008 and 2012. Someone has to win and someone has to lose. In those cases, Obama won. Obama has tried to make many overtures to the other side and in fact, it is almost always Obama who ends up compromising. I really don’t see him as someone who is a destroyer of his opponents at all… After a hard fought primary, Obama asked Clinton to be SOS and she agreed. He didn’t have to make that offer and she didn’t have to accept it. Ask the left wing of the Democratic Party if Obama destroys all his opponents!

“Fox News are NOT the “hater’s” ….”
What about Fox News correspondent, Eric Bolling, saying that Rep. Maxine Waters should “step away from the crack-pipe. Step away from the Xanex”? Not hateful?

In retrospect, JerseyJo, doesn’t this comment seem hateful? Ever considered a career on Fox News?
