When I was in the Navy I ran into that “If it’s digital it’s true” mentality with the junior officers. Something about an analog dial (and the accompanying whirring of synchros) inspired an appropriate sense of skepticism.
Given that skepticism, Wikipedia is a kick to browse– I get stuck there all the time, as I did with Mom’s encylopedia as a kid.
When playing in someone else’s sandbox, you have to play by their rules. Considering how open Wikipedia is to abuse, I think they do an astonishing job.

Next, wikipedia needs better definitions of “backed,” “independent,” and “sources.”

Anything is better with a healthy dose of skepticism. It’s the salt on your “food for thought.”

pschearer - you’re probably right, but I can find almost anything I need in the OED, the Brittanica or the Groves without even turning on my computer.

I checked, and they had removed the page. I have restored it. Let’s see how long it lasts.

The link I posted here for the NAOQV Wikipedia page got mangled by GoComics’ formatting. Here’s a link that will work: http://tinyurl.com/cqtgbe
