Stephen Wright gave the best (and maybe the shortest) Oscar acceptance speech ever.

I heard that when Sally Fields said, “They like me, they really like me!”, she was quoting a line from “Norma Rae” (which I haven’t seen). That knowledge shatters my comfortable conception of actress-as-ditz.

I will manage to spend Oscar Night as I spend any other night: sitting in front of my computer. Those people who watch TV all night– what a bunch of losers!

Oh, Your Maj - why such cynicism? ;)

Steverino: pleased to let you know the line is NOT in “Norma Rae”. Your conception is still intact.

steverino - an actress who can portray a convincing ditz needs a sharp mind to concentrate on all the nuances required for the portrayal. Goldie Hawn, for instance, is one of the most brilliant women alive. I could never, by design or by accident, be as sily as her characters seem to be.

Ms. Field was in a moment of deep emotion when she cut loose with that “you really like me” bit. If it’s ditzy to speak from the heart, so be it. I for one will fly my ditz flag high.

Goldie Hawn may be brilliant, but from the five minutes of the Oscars I watched tonight, she doesn’t have any original parts left. This cartoon has perfectly captured why I don’t care about the Oscars this year.

I lost interest when I heard Peter Gabriel had shined on this year’s awards.

I so agree with this comic the only reason I watched it was for Hugh Jackman.

Hugh who?

That’s a big part of the reason I didn’t watch either.

Actually, Heath Ledger earned that Oscar. It was a superlative performance.

And the winner is ALWAYS the Holocaust flick, but you can’t use that as a punchline.

If it was such a superlative performance, how come I haven’t bothered to watch it yet?

Could it be that “superlative performance” is a subjective and personal opinion, not shared by all?
