Cathy: Why wasn't I told that if I threw myself into my career I might run out of time to have children?? Mom from phone: I believe I mentioned that on each of your last ten birthdays, Cathy. Cathy: Why wasn't I told to get out of relationships that weren't working and into one that might go somewhere??! Mom from phone: I made that point in every single weekly phone call. Cathy: WHY WASN'T I TOLD BY SOMEONE WHO ISN'T MY MOTHER??! Mom from phone: Goodbye, terrible two's/ Hello, really icky thirties.

It wouldn’t have mattered, Cathy — you still wouldn’t have listened! eye roll

You would listen if you paid good money to someone like a therapist. Free advice doesn’t seem as good because it is free.

Didn’t her co-workers tell her?

Well, this is just going from bad to ugly. No comment other than an eyerollGood morning, Cathy clan! It’s Friday!@hendelca – I’m glad that you have it figured out and are taking precautions. It’s a rough time for you, but it sounds like you’re doing great, even when you encounter “bumps in the road”! I hope you don’t have any further issues in your treatment and I hope you get better soon!

She didn’t listen because it was her mother, but she’d have listened to her friends if they told her the same thing! I’m not a mom but if I were this would make me pull my hair out.

I will admit to having asked another adult whom my daughter respected to suggest something that was great advice but that would have been rejected coming from me! Shhhhh! And I would say that my twenties were way ickier than my thirties….finishing college and having to go to work full time, trying to figure out tricky personal relationships, not enough money, and then later in the decade having my first baby before I was fully prepared…glad those years are way in the past!hendelca — sorry about your fall — glad you are okay.Happy Friday to the Clan!

See, Cathy does age in the strip. Since Cathy’s mom gets that grandbaby years from now, Cathy would be too old to have a baby when she did.

My mom and I are pretty much the exact opposite: if I try to advise her on something (like the latest scams going around that are targeting senior citizens, for example), she ACTS like she’s listening but I can tell she’s only pretending in order to get me off her back. But if my HUSBAND tells her the exact same thing, well, that’s just an entirely different story. After all, if HE says something then it MUST be true!!!!! I don’t know if it’s because he’s a man . . . if it’s because he went to college and I didn’t . . . or if it’s because I’m her daughter so she just automatically tunes me out because I couldn’t possibly know what the hell I’m talking about. Who knows?! I spend more time than I’d like frustrated because of her attitude.
A couple of years ago, I gave her a recent newspaper article that warned people of the newest senior citizen scam going around: people calling you, telling you they were with the S.S.A. and that they needed to verify your bank account information because of some sort of error and you wanted to get your check on time, didn’t you? So people believed them, willingly gave out their information, then found their bank accounts drained because it was nothing but a scam. Wouldn’t you know it? Four days later, my mom called in a panic, told us what she had done (which is exactly what I had just got done warning her about and, surprise surprise, she did NOT read the newspaper article I brought her!) and what should she do? Thankfully, that call came after banking hours so we weren’t concerned anything was going to happen that night but the 3 of us were down at the bank bright and early the next morning, waiting for them to open so that we could hurry up and close that account before anything bad could happen.
Now after all that, you would think that she’d NEVER do anything like that ever again. Right? Wrong! Sometime last year, someone called her, lead her to believe they were with Medicare, and asked for her bank account information. She was in the living room and her checkbook was in her purse in her bedroom. By the time she got back there and took it out, it had given her just enough time to think about it and she decided that something wasn’t quite right about this phone call. That’s when she turned around, went back out into the next room and without saying another word, she just hung up on the person who called! It’s frustrating to think that even after what we went through the year before, if her checkbook had been any closer to her than it was at the time, she’d have given them the information they wanted right then and there . . . at which point, we couldn’t have done anything to help her because that particular call DID come during banking hours and by the time we could have gotten down to the bank, I’m sure it would have been too late to have stopped the inevitable. She’s 76 and doing pretty well living on her own but she scares me to death when it comes to her finances and how willing she seems sometimes to just hand over any information anyone asks her for even though we’ve BOTH lectured her time and again NOT to do it!!!!! :-(
Hi, rgcviper!
hendelca: Glad to hear you’re taking it easy after a scary week. Hope you’re feeling better soon!
Hello and Happy Friday, fellow “Cathy” fans. Hope everyone had a really nice day and that you have an even BETTER weekend!
P.S.: Sorry my post was so long. I try not to write “books” like that but sometimes, there’s just so much to say that it’s really hard NOT to!!!!! ;-)

Either a [sigh] or an [eye-roll] should work just fine here.
Thanks for the informative and interesting posts, guys.
