They soooo like doing that! Happy Wednesday everyone! ;)

I don’t feed my dog at the table, but if I’m walking along with an ice cream, he attentively heels unbidden and always gets dropped a bit at the end. Eating the stuff in front of a dog if you aren’t going to share is very mean,

A bit of ice cream gives many dogs the “D” condition. Many ice cream places around my area give out a “special” doggie ice cream treat. It’s made so as not to give them the “D” word, and the dog owner can enjoy their own ice cream treat without the guilt. (or dreaded “D” thing)

Not sharing with a dog is not mean. It’s for the good of the dog. My husband shares with the dog all the time. The dog developed pancreatitis. Which didn’t stop my husband who shared a chili dog with her despite my protests. We were driving from New Mexico to San Jose CA. She puked all the way (on him several times Ha-Ha) and had to be in the vet hospital for 24 hours to be re-hydrated. The vet lectured him and I put the vet bill on his credit card. He’s more cautious about what he feeds her now

We can’t get away with eating ice cream at our house without giving our dog a couple of very small spoonfuls . . . enough to satisfy but NOT enough to give her the “D” thing! But given that my husband and I are perpetually on a diet around here, that’s not something that happens very often. ;-)

BettyH553: Welcome to “Cathy’s Corner”! Hope you’ll post here more often! So sorry to hear about your poor pup having pancreatitis. Hope she’s doing better these days! People need to be aware that just because food is safe for us to eat, that doesn’t mean it’s safe for dogs to eat!!! If you don’t know what you’re doing, you can accidentally kill your precious pet and that would be something I’d hate to have to live with the rest of my life if that ever happened to me. Glad to hear your husband is finally restraining himself where that’s concerned (even though I’m sure your dog is very sad about that though!). It’s definitely for the best, that’s for sure.

argy.bargy2: So true! My husband and I have never fed our dog from the table so she never begs. Most of the time, she just lays around and naps or plays with a chew toy until it’s her turn to eat (dog food, of course!). The only people food she’s ever gotten are plain Cheeri-O’s; unsalted, unbuttered popcorn; smooth, low-fat peanut butter; and vanilla ice cream (all of which are special occasion treats ONLY and are safely sanctioned by just about every pet expert-written book I’ve ever read) and that is all. She’s 12 years old and with the exception of an occasional epileptic seizure, she’s in picture-perfect health . . . something she probably wouldn’t be if she were fed an unhealthy people diet.
