Focus, Cathy! Don’t be distracted by your mother… and Cathy’s mom, leave Cathy alone! Go look at a wedding magazine and talk with Cathy about it after work hours.

Hello Cathy clan! Hope you’re having a relaxing Sunday!

I saw a beautiful dress before our wedding was on the way – a full-length kaftan in gold, with gold lace and a gorgeous pattern. I really liked the idea of being married in it.

But when the time came . . . Mum and I made my dress, and it was of course completely different! Oh well – I couldn’t have afforded the golden one anyway.

We got married in May, thinking it would be cooler than a summer wedding. That was 40 years ago. It is still the hottest temp recorded here for that day (96F) And, the AC was broken in the church..There is no “best month.” Just do it.

I had the exact opposite problem when I got married 26 years ago. My parents’ participation in my wedding planning was non-existent (right along with any monetary contribution towards it) so it was just me and my fiancé doing — and paying for — everything by ourselves.

I remember falling in love with one particularly beautiful wedding dress I saw but I simply couldn’t afford it because of all the other expenses involved. It’s not that it was all that terribly fancy and expensive (at least, not according to today’s standards anyhow) but I was only 19 years old, hadn’t been out of school and working that long and money was pretty tight for us then — which meant I couldn’t have the wedding I really wanted; I simply had to have the one I could afford. Given that we were shopping at one of those “one-stop” places where we just got everything we needed at the same time instead of going to a hundred different stores (for whatever), they made me a great “deal” on the dress I had originally fallen in love with so that it was now more affordable for me to buy. Talk about ecstatic!

A few years later I found out there really wasn’t a deal (or much of one anyhow) regarding that beautiful dress after all; my husband managed to find the money somewhere to secretly pay them what ran over my budget just so that I could at least have the dress of my dreams for our small wedding. Even now, all these years later, it still makes me tear up a little bit just thinking about how sweet, kind, thoughtful and considerate he was to do that for me because he knew how happy it would make me . . . and how all these years later, nothing has really changed in that department. He’s still just as sweet to me now as he was back then. He’s an absolute KING among men and (hopefully!) I show him every single day how very, very much I love him and how lucky I consider myself to have him as my husband!!!!! ♥
