I think your post-cookie sugar level is causing you to be irrational, Cathy, or else you’d realize that your shoe addiction and shopping habits are clearly causing your financial ruin. So lay off the poor guy. He’s all that’s keeping you from an IRS audit.

Sadly, nothing has really changed in the last 11 years since this was originally published. If anything, it’s gotten much, much worse since then. Seems like very few people these days are willing to take personal responsibility for the train wreck that their lives have become (whether it’s drinking, smoking, gambling, drug abuse, over-eating, over-spending, or some other reckless behavior), choosing instead to blame all their unfortunate lifestyle choices on someone — anyone — else rather than squarely where it all really belongs: and that’s on themselves. {sigh}
