Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for July 24, 2015
Transcript:
Charlene: This has never been right for anything, but if we go to a semi-dressy outdoor cocktail party on our vacation, it would be perfect! Cathy: Take it! Charlene: If it's cold, I need this...If it's hot, I need this...If we happen upon an arty couple who joins us for an impromptu cookout on the beach and it begins to sprinkle, I need this... Cathy: TAKE IT! TAKE IT! TAKE IT! TAKE IT! Charlene: Men will never understand. Cathy: I know. 364 days a year, we have nothing to wear. The day we pack to go someplace, it's all indispensable.

OK, ladies, clue a guy in here. Just how much of an exaggeration is this? eyeroll

Not an exaggeration to a clothes horse! The perfect outfit makes the day go better. That includes…. from the top down….hairdo, makeup, perfume, jewelry, clothes, purse, shoes.

That is pretty accurate for some women, though not all. Most of us probably have a tendency to pack a few too many things. I just returned from a 10 day summer road trip – even though I had plenty of space, I packed light (no dressy clothes since we were mostly camping) After the trip, I unpacked 1 pair of unworn shorts, 2 unworn t-shirts and an unused swimsuit. But, we did have free access to a washer and dryer – otherwise the shorts and tees probably would have been worn. It was too cold and rainy for swimming.

It’s accurate. Women can imagine a thousand different scenarios for where an outfit might work, and none of them has to do with going to work…

Until you take a few trips and realize what you don’t end up wearing. We have a Caribbean trip coming up this fall and the first leg is a very small plane, so no roller bag in the plane which means some serious trimming on the clothes.

Also, Cathy Clan: My husband and I love animation art, and we had the privilege last month of attending a special celebration at Bill Melendez studios for a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Among the other TV special produced at the studio were the “Cathy” animated specials, and the lovely Ms. Guisewite came to the party and we got to meet her! She is very nice and friendly, and she is also TINY!!! I’m only 5 foot 4 and she made me look like a moose! She laughed when I told her my favorite comic was the one about returning a pair of “one size fits all” pantyhose, because “they don’t…” A very nice and unexpected treat at the event!

Triviaguy from yesterday. Yes, I know the numeric keypad has letters and you can text from that (I use that same system to set titles on a dvd recorder) but why would I want to go through all that trouble? I will admit I admire the skill of those, like yourself, that can do it that way. Besides I usually have my phone with me only when I am driving and there is NO WAY I will text and drive. I don’t even talk on the phone and drive since I have a great desire to live a long time. Happy Friday Clan. I hope your weather is a beautiful as ours today (finally got a few great days in a row).

I’m definitely NOT a clotheshorse. When it comes to trips, I try to pack as little as possible. Shorts, t-shirts and sandals in the sum-mer . . . jeans, turtlenecks and tennis shoes in the winter. Spring and Fall can be kind of iffy either way so I usually take an extra outfit or two (plus a sweater) to accommodate for unusual tem-perature changes there may be at those times of year. As for dressy clothes, it seems like the only place my husband and I ever go these days is to visit his family out of state and since we never go anyplace fancy while we’re there, that’s one less set of clothes and shoes I have to agonize over taking with me (thank goodness!).

Hi, rgcviper! I look forward to hearing about your next attempt at posting pictures on G.C. I really hope it works because I’m all out of any more ideas if it doesn’t. Good luck, friend! :-)
Â
drbethsk8s: What a great story! You didn’t happen to mention all her fans here on “Cathy’s Corner” to Ms. Guisewite when you met her, did you? If so, maybe we’ll get lucky and she’ll pay us a visit sometime. How great would that be?!? ;-)
Â
janinabarnes: For my 20th high school reunion, I went ahead and bought the little black cocktail dress I needed for it. I haven’t worn it again in the last 8 years since then, but if I ever go on a cruise or to a fancy Broadway play, by golly I’ll have that special little dress already bought and ready to go!!! ;-)

Hello and Happy Friday, fellow Cathy fans. Hope everyone hada really great day today! :-)

Well, the pic was one of Cathy saying AACK, but once again, I just saw the blank line above. Grumble …
Then I tried using a formula from the GoComics Style Guide, but it came out too big, since it had no width specification. Looks like I just wasn’t meant to post images here … [sigh]
HI, MOM. Thanks again for all your help with the images. No clue what’s going wrong for me, but they just aren’t working. Anyone else have any expertise they’d be willing to share?
Happy Friday, “Cathy” Clan.
