Mom: E-nough! I wrote her a three-page e-mail. She wrote a one-sentence reply. Does she think it's my turn to write back? We spent a day finding, wrapping and shipping a wedding gift. They e-mailed a thank you and 250 wedding photos that we have to download individually. Are we the rude ones if we don't respond? We've sent graduation gifts, birthday gifts, anniversary flowers and thinking-of-you baskets. In return, we've received e-greetings, e-thanks, e-jokes and a link to Harriet's granddaughter's in vitro fertilization blog! Noise: Click! Dad: We understand the new technology... Mom: It's the new people we don't get.

And the new people since then are worse.

Yep—technology can be both a blessing and a curse. Seems like you just can’t win some days …
HI, MOM. Good Sunday Morning, “Cathy” Clan.

The rules haven’t changed. Just the speed of ‘rude’.

While thank-you notes are greatly appreciated for all the time and effort I put into finding and giving someone what I hope is the perfect gift, I would consider it a “win” if the only acknowledgement I ever managed to get for it is a one- or two-sentence e-mail because all too many times in the past I’ve never received so much as a verbal thank you, let alone a beautifully hand-written paper one, from a number of people I’ve given gifts to. Given the way things are these days, I’ll take whatever “thanks” I can get in whatever form they’re willing to give it in no matter how rude I otherwise think it is and find a way to be at least half-way happy that I got anything from them at all (while I silently vow to never give that ungrateful person another gift ever again for ANY reason). Sadly, it looks as though nice, thoughtful, considerate manners is all-too-quickly disappearing and being replaced with lazy, selfish, inconsiderate ones instead. :-/

I’m with you, Mom…I consider myself lucky if they even acknowledge the gift or money.
