Cathy: We could have paid $220 for vacation plane tickets two weeks ago. But my sweetie insisted on searching for better fares, lower luggage fees, roomier seats and reachable phone reps. Now we're paying $540 to travel to the same destination on a red-eye with three stops and one four-hour layover. Why fly coach when you can spring for the aggravation upgrade?

Don’t worry, Cathy! Soon we’ll have self-flying personal aircraft, and you can go where you want, when you want – no schedules required!

Yeah, I have “special dealed” myself into a credit limit crunch on more that one occasion. Bad on me.

I don’t fly, so I save a lot.

I do enjoy flying – not the hassle getting tickets and getting on board but the actual flight. Seeing the ground pass by from that far up is amazing – so is looking at clouds from the top. I have found two airlines that are outstanding for service – Iceland Air is one. The other is Atlantic Airways that flies from Copenhagen to the Faroe Islands. Every seat on the flight is first class – wide seats, lots of legroom and the food was served on real plates with real cutlery. It was a little pricey but considering our unexpected layover in Bergen Norway because of fog over the airport in the Faroe Islands was included – excellent dinner, first class rooms, and a really good breakfast. Reminded me of what flying was like back in the late 60’s when I discovered that flying was better than trains.
I hope everyone is enjoying this fine Friday in July.

This would be a lot funnier if it wasn’t true …

C’mon, Cathy—what’s flying without all the extra annoyances … uh, benefits?
