Cathy: $400 for last spring's "timeless classic" jacket. Out of style before the first bill came. $350 for excruciating boots that I bought too small because the tiny size made my feet look cuter. $220 for a blouse bought on on a frappuccino rush. Felt too guilty to ever wear it. $320 for stretch satin holiday pants. Looked fabulous for six minutes in the dressing room. Haven't been zipped up since... $180 for last summer's "goes with anything" sweater that looks terrible with everything I own... $130 for a pasta maker that made pasta once... $340 for a thigh machine that's shoved in a closet. $20 for a bottle of shampoo that gave me a 48-hour "herbal fragrance" headache the only time I tried it... $18 for lipstick that I rejected before I even got out of the mall parking deck...why?...Why...WHY?.. Saleswoman: Right on schedule...April 16 and the 1999 returns are pouring in. Cathy: Take it back! Take it all back! I hardly touched any of it!! I need the money to pay my taxes!

Where does Cathy shop at? I have never in my life spent over $100 on a piece of clothing. That is nuts!

I suspect Goodwill is full of impulse buys. Oddly enough, itâs hard to buy Good Will.

She knows taxes come at the same time every year. If she was only smart enough to plan for them, she would not go through this every year. Ask that account she pays for how to do it, and next yearâs tax rant will be different. I wouldnât mind a different outcome.

Cathy and JLChi are not the only people who caved to peer pressure to wear designer labels. I recall my daughter when she was in high school (decades agao) being outcast from the âinâ crowd because we could not afford to buy her one of the two brands of running shoes that were acceptable. Fortunately for all she found a crowd that boasted of their shoe brand â purchased from the âGT Boutiqueâ (Giant Tiger â a discount chain for everything â still popular now). I shudder to think of the amount of money spent due to peer pressure.
Happy Easter to those who celebrate it â Happy Sunday to those who donât.

So if my (really rough) calculations are correct, thatâs somewhere around $1,500 worth of stuff she boughtâall in 1999. Pretty extreme prices, too, as others have mentioned. Am I gonna have to cut her off??
HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, âCathyâ Clan.
