It’s like watching the old Joe Franklin show on TV. We would sit around and keep saying it can’t possibly be this bad and then it would get even worse.
Sorry Penny R. complaining about this awful story line does not constitute being a crank or a whiner. This arc is way below the usual standards of GA. I’d rather deal with Slim and Clovia than this nonsense of Rufus marrying the mule. Rufus and Joel could easily have been used to better effect. So many great characters in this strip. So many potentially great story lines. Shame on Jim S. for insulting his readership with this asinine tale. Jim can and should do better.
I’d have told him to Kiss my (biblical term for mule or donkey). R. should say the same to Joel. Even all those women who had him for dinner would be better. He’d still end up with a 50K split and possibly a bit of fun.
OK, so it’s a stupid situation. It’s also a COMIC strip and is supposed to be funny. I personally think it is funny and I enjoy the wordplay (parson person) and the puns. I also like the art work. Li’l Abner also had stupid hillbilly plots and I used to like that too.

Usually, Gasoline Alley is my favorite strip. But I feel like an idiot, reading this story arc every day.

Actually, I’m kind of enjoying this “commonplace situation.”

I am dropping this strip from my list. I will check back in a few weeks.
