Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for March 02, 2013
Transcript:
Austin: This is myFACTS. Austin speaking! Man: Hi, my phone is tapped, so I can't tell you my name, but I'm looking for fresh evidence that 9/11 was a government conspiracy! Austin: I'm sorry, sir, but I'm showing our truther line has been disconnected. Can I interest you in another elaborate hoax? Man: Who paid you off? It was Cheney, wasn't it? Just nod. Austin: How about Bin Laden? We carry irrefutable proof he's still alive!

“Just nod”?!? The caller knows if Austing is nodding? Nodding off, maybe.
annieb1012 almost 12 years ago
Or maybe the caller is Jeff. His dream world might accommodate that….

i was wondering if it is really a good thing to reduce our economy by $85+ billion, because the gov’t is too big. also, if it is a good thing to lose 750k jobs this year, because the gov’t is too big.

Move on Trollcci, we’re past the question of whether Obama is a Muslim. Now we’re blaming the Sequester on the President.Btw, this strip ran in 2012. Bin Laden was already dead, so your “gotcha” is a sad failure.

Oh, and for those new to the forum- Tucci is a racist who gets his jollies from engaging in flamewars.

I’m still glad I don’t anything about politics.

It would be brilliant to say Osama was dead, and then hold him in a remote area for interrogation; I doubt if that secret could be kept. Burying him at sea was smart; no shrine, no focal point for the radical Muslims to gather round.

A few weeks ago someone observed this was supposed to be a comic strip, not a political forum. Well…..the past few days should prove it is actually GT’s private political soap box.

The real humour is in the comments section, keep it up, guys!

For those claiming Trudeau only mocks the right… the 9/11 truther thing was a left-wing conspiracy.

This whole sequence is stupid and not based on ANY fact. But I expect that of Doonesbury. The man who once said, “I’m a cartoonist. I don’t NEED to tell the truth.” He’s certainly living up to that. But his complete IGNORANCE is so funny I have to keep reading his strip.

I wonder if the vitriolic acid constantly dripping from your mouth is slowly eating away your face. Does it hurt?

The election is over, why can’t all the conservatives uncover it now?

No, I just stack up the elephant tusks as a warning.

http://www.therightreasons.net/index.php?/topic/46587-todays-toons-22613/"Had a look. Some good cartoons there – several are here on gocomics anyway (eg Chuck Asay, Mike Luckovich). Also some ‘head in hands’, I can’t believe anyone falls for this ridiculous propoganda, standard cartoons on the site as well. Luckily with some critical thinking and some independent thought, the wheat and chaff can easily be separated. Won’t return to the site though, far too much chaff. Frankly GBT sets a much higher standard than the average cartoon on the site you recommend.Mike

I’m assuming there is some irony there, but just to put some figures into the mix.
Debt in the US was 120% of GDP in 1945, it’s now around 100%. The developed world has run up, in times of comparative peace, debt levels last seen after a war that engulfed most of the world.
After WW2 a large part of the productive capacity of Europe was destroyed, thus creating a massive market for your exports. Here in the UK debt of 250% of GDP was initially dealt with by keeping rationing for ten more years to 1955, forcing production into exports, but debt only came back under 50% after the inflation of the late 60s and early 70s ate away the value of the debt.
So no, no strife and stress at all…

Flag, flag, flag the trolls are marching.

@Tucci is stuck in the 30’s. The fight is over. Progressivism won, and in wins every time. It only has to wait a generation for the previous iteration of reactionaries to die off. By then the following iteration of reactionaries have adopted half the progressivism of the previous iteration. All the selected facts and distorted logic and dire warnings and pontifical (emeritus) predictions in the world will not result in even one good idea that conservatives can actually implement in the real world. I guess if I were a conservative I too would feel powerless, frustrated, desperate, and helpless, and correspondingly fanatical, angry, self-righteous and vindictive. But it’s a tempest in a Tea Party.
tomielm almost 12 years ago
And your “truth” comes from…where? Cite sources or get off the forum. Any fool can spew bile —especially your kind. I feel sorry for you and your dark, sad, hate-filled life.

Which immediately produces an image of how the Keystone Kops/Cops would march if choreographed and directed by the Three Stooges. I find this image to be an excellent remedy for the effort involved in scrolling down the Comments, avoiding the trollishness and picking out the posts that are of interest. If I were inclined to wear a hat, I’d doff it to those who do their level best to deal reasonably with the unreasonables!

Sorry champ, the problem isn’t the cover up. The problem is Fox stopped caring about Benghazi after the election. In October, Fox was Benghazi 24-7. They thought they were going to beat Obama with it. For Fox it didn’t work out as planned.

For all the people who believe GT should be “more fair,” please remember there are conservative cartoonists out there. They are the balance to GT and it takes at least 3 of them to equal 1 Doonesbury:-

Congrats for the first intelligent refutation of Tucci I’ve seen. Most of the rest can only muster the “argument’s” that he is a “racist and a tea bagger”, e.g. ad hominem attacks and nothing else.
Kip W almost 12 years ago
Have you ever noticed that when Mallard Fillmore drops the political talking points and goes for nonpartisan humor, hell freezes over and pigs fly out of all our butts?

We’re quite happy right here — why don’t you stick to your conservative hype sites.

I don’t usually flag, but this group of comments is disgusting.

“My wife with me.” So, how is she doing?
“big rig”
By “big rig,” I take it you mean an eighteen-wheel tractor-trailer? In my youth, around the time Mike and BD were touring the country on their motorcycle, collecting Joanie, etc., I was doing a lot of cross-country hitchhiking – mostly with truckers. Bucking those big rigs can be way more physically punishing than most people realize.

“…a centrist with a left lean.” A friend of mine describes herself as having conservative values and liberal views. That works for me. Stronger moral fiber would grow us a better crop of families, which are the bedrock of any healthy society. Stronger moral fiber would also net us better government. At the same time, an advanced civilization should be able to take care of its poor, its damaged, and its confused; if there are abuses of the system we’ve put in place for doing that, well, there are abuses at the rich, healthy, and brilliant level, too.

“All this hate, from both sides, but predominately the right, is doing more to kill our land than any thing else in the world.”
Well, I certainly agree with that. But then, unlike you, I’m having a hard time finding entertainment value in the expressions of that hate on this forum! Yuck.

“We should “UNITE” and rise up to take our country back from those who would divide and conquer us from within.”
Yes, indeed, we should.
alviebird almost 12 years ago
No matter what your opinion, someone is going to hold the opposite view. Getting you knickers in a twist over someone else’s beliefs is an exercise in futility, and a waste of energy. It also shows a lack of maturity.
People, grow up.

Gee, maybe to Mr. Trudeau Elvis isn’t dead, Amelia Earheart is living in Japan….
kaffekup almost 12 years ago
That’s been the repug strategy for years – divide and conquer. Not working any more, boohoo.
