Like the horse-drawn carriage manufacturers, harley? What, a new industry popped up, you say? Interesting. It’s time to swim if you don’t want to sink.
He’s not buying up car companies or telling them what to make. In fact, it’s the other way around.
Car companies are going to the government and asking for help. They are embracing what the government is asking for. In fact, the only people that seem to have a problem with it are the people who are already anti-Obama, because over 80% of the population (according to the Washington Post) want cars that use gasoline. Only 14% want the government out of it altogether.
As for the president not being king, then you must disagree with Cheney and his “Unitary Executive” belief.
“Buy them then you kill them off” … and leave us with the bill.
The technology is NOT available. If it were someone would be richer than King Midas selling it. There’s something called “The Laws Physics” that these environ-masochists and politicians don’t understand. Combustion technologies have hit the wall of physics - you can’t reduce emissions and increase efficiency at the same time. Let’s not forget that batteries require a carbon producing power plant to charge them. These people won’t be happy until we all live in unheated mud huts (save the trees) and walk to work (if you’re lucky enough to have a government job).
You’re right. There’s no such thing as Japan’s average of a 50 mpg car.

Unless they’re being blocked by a very large lobby.

You’re right about one thing: Old-fashioned technology will hit a wall, but we’re not there yet. Better yet, let’s get some new-fashioned technology.

Or solar, or wind, or geothermal, or tidal…

harley, that’s just too silly. Dicktater? Are you 12? But if you wanted an example of someone attempting to turn the presidency into a dictatorship, look at the Bush/Cheney administration.

The technology is available, just needs to be implemented.

People are going to figure a loophole around this, anyway, just like they have been doing with the catalytic converters that some people hate.

This strawman doesn’t even deserve a response.

OMG you mean an unheated mud hut is an option?!? All this time I was living in a regular house and I could have moved on up to a mud hut?!?
Why does nobody tell me these things?
