@Number Six awesome :) So Iâm new here even though my account says Iâve been registered on here since 2008. What things can you do on this website?
So 80âs! âI can have it all, and I can have it nowâŠand I should, because Iâm me! Greed is good.â Few people where I live today realise that the greedy 80s and 90s laid the groundwork for the crisis weâre dealing with now.
Can someone explain me what is meant by: âthe lowest common denominator is always right.â? Iâm not familiar with the term in another context than the mathematical one.
J.L.G. the reason this seems so prophetic of todayâs memes is that itâs simply a comment on the human constant. Mankind by his nature is selfish and greedy at the core. Always has been and always will be no matter the age. So sad but trye.
Todayâs strip was drawn in the later years of Bill Wattersonâs Calvin and Hobbes career, when he had turned down personal wealth by refusing to mass-market Calvin and Hobbes merchandise (stuffed Hobbes toys, etc. ). He was also struggling to keep his life private, since he had become famous.
Calvin: âDad, your latest poll results are in.ââTe-riff.ââTheyâre not good. Your popularity has now reached a new all-time low.âHm. Any ideas?ââLots. Cable TV, my own TV, and a VCR.ââWonderful, another thing to think about.â
The greed factor:Ties in well with the msn story today about how people were hiring disabled with Disney passes to get them to the head of the lines â while parents with children were waiting an hour or so in the heat.

Just amazing that this was written years before reality TV took off, and even longer before the YouTube age.

Well Iâd say your best career options are the Entertainment industry or Politics. Wait what am I saying? Thatâs the same industry.

I wonder⊠if politicians were as cute as Calvin, would we root for them, too? (They certainly seem to promote the same hilarious messages!)

I like how this sets up ludicrously evil statements only to cut away to a satire.
