Oh, they manipulated our emotions all right, just that they were usually a tad more subtle than nowadays.

@somebodyshortI read on a page about Casablanca trivia that in order to show how much movies have changed since the 1940’s, the script was submitted to several people in Hollywood under the title “Everybody Comes To Rick’s”. A few recognized it, the rest returned it with rejections letters, most with comments saying it had “too much talking, not enough sex.”

Every one smokes in those old movies not a good thing.

Old movies manipulated emotions too. Movies always have, using the tools that were commonly popular in their age. What else is soundtrack music for?

For Calvin, an “old movie” might be one that’s five years old.

That’s my kind of movie.

All movies manipulate emotions, whether action films or straight dramas, as does all fiction.

I can imagine Calvin fidgeting throughout the whole thing from the opening credits to closing credits.I can also imagine yawning too.LOL xxx

Movies were not always intended to shock! (It’s a shocker, I know!)

Rhymes are also excellent.

The math teacher I recall most clearly was a man who stood up in front of a high school class and pointed out that the most accurate method was the lazy method.

He had the attention of all 35+ of us, and whatever his method was (mathematics are not my long suit) worked, even for those of us who were math challenged.
