It’s annoying when your in a cafe and someone is talking so loud that it doesn’t matter where you are sitting, you can hear everthing he or she is saying.
I remember the Automat being portrayed in a number of films and TV shows. One on a Jackie Gleason program and another time in a picture with Doris Day and Cary Grant, and interestingly also Alice Kramden (Audrey Meadows).
Also saw something similar in a Jack Benny show that was on the other night. Jack is seated in a theater and the man next to him asks if he is comfortable. Jack says yes and asks the man why he said that. The other fellow replies, “Because you’re sitting on my hat.” When Jack stands up and apologizes as he hands the man back his now crushed fedora, the other fellow replies, “I only wish it had been my umbrella.”
