Sometimes you see Hasenpfeffer half-anglicized to âHassenpfefferâ, under the mistaken belief that the âssâ is from an esset (the german beta character used for double s). Not so. Hase, âhareâ., has the plural Hasen. The old word Hasenpfeffer has more of a connotation of âbunny with pepperâ.
Or as the King in the Bugs Bunny cartoon pronounced it: "HAWSENFFEFFFAWWW !! Used to love hearing that. Royal Brits sound so astute when speaking. Donch yaâll think?
