I’ll give you a prize if you don’t play that oboe, Petey.

Petey ought to have just said “yes” in panel 1 and avoided all the very upsetting drama that has entailed….

Love Petey’s sanctimonious expression in panel three.

Oboes are rarely in marching bands, because the fragile reeds break easily. However, my older daughter played the glockenspiel in high-school band (that instrument that looks like a fancy xylophone), then something else the second year, and in the third year, the oboe!

The Old Sarge was the Drum Major at Herndon High School in Herndon, VA in 1961-62. Chest Thump! Ooh-rah!

Got demoted to forth chair drum section when I thought that I was thrilling the majorettes with my charm and skill and nearly didn’t graduate, thanks to the band director who shall not be named, (he has since passed on) this gentleman didn’t appreciate my actions and antics during rehearsal.

Still wound up playing guitar with some of the most well known names in show biz of the sixties. These were the “B” artists of the time. 2nd Chest thump!

How about Tony Orlando, The Angels, Curtis Lee, Leslie Gore and a bunch more for $20-$50 a night?

If you haven’t noticed, The Old Sarge is nothing but modest.

    “Ars Gratia Artis”

(And before you all collapse into fits of snickering*; that’s “Ars”, not “arse”. It means “Art for the sake of Art”.)

*Yes, I’ve had this happen before. Not cool, guys! Not cool!
