I suppose it would be too depressing every Mother’s Day to remind us that Sergio’s wife is dead. Although they could always do a strip on other mothers, like Cruz’s or Gracie’s schoolmate’s.
Being Type II (diagnosed in early 2002) I don’t mind the occasional “public service announcement” here. I appreciate the fact that they always try to make it part of a gag instead of hitting us over the head with it. (As an example, having Sergio and Gracie taking a long walk together in the last panel.)
