treesareus – I imagine you only do your own laundry. Your wife does the towels, the sheets and pillowcases, the bath mats, and any other stray items that need washing.
Sounds like a lot of you live vicariously through Opal. Stop and look at how much you try to CONTROL another person by your actions, as Opal does with Earl.If Earl fails to do what Opal wants, she gets frustrated and unhappy and angry. Earl, meanwhile, remains happy with a minimum of effort; a minimum of need, and zero need to control.
For many years in Arizona, we didn’t own a washer or dryer and had to use the laundromat. Sunday morning was laundry day and I would take all our wash to the laundromat located in a campground outside of town at precisely 7 AM when it opened. ( I got off work at 6 AM ).We had a group of locals, mostly guys, but one intrepid lady who was the mastermind. All of us worked in the hospitality industries, either in bars or resorts. Not only would we take over the premises, but thanks to our lady bartender, whose camper on her truck was filled with adult beverages, Sunday was a heck of a cleaning day ! BTW Bars didn’t open until noon !My wife never figured out why it took 3 to 4 hours to do laundry ! ( Or why I came home in such a good mood ! )

As soon as Calvin’s mother gave Calvin his clean laundry and asked to put it away, he stuffed it into his dresser drawers.

Sometimes Opel would like to put Earl away.

I would have " lovingly" put it away myself… Opal must not have told Earl, exactly, where she wanted it put ;)

Opal will not ask him again to put away the laundry. There’s method to his madness!

I love it. This is one of the tricks to wife train. Sure give more time for the golf course

I’m 38 I do my own laundry but don’t ask me to put them away I’ll just toss them on my bed or dump them on top of my dresser drawer.

It’s pretty clear that laundry isn’t Earl’s favorite chore. If she wants/expects help, there are better ways to get it — incentives!

Personally, I would leave his clothes under the bed if that is where he wants them.

Unfortunately if Opal left Earl to clean his own clothes, he’d soon be wearing hers.
