So gov’t is broken until one of the parties has a 60 vote majority in the senate AND a majority in the House of Representatives. AT which point we’ll have an oligarchy made up of a singular party with its own goals and ambitions- and those of their corporate, union, and/or private donors. With the votes and opinions of so many Americans already trivialized by legislators who vote in favor of donors over constituents, our “democracy” is not going to move forward until, like Hugo Chavez’s party, only one party makes all the decisions and like Venezuela, the United States will become a reflection of that ideal and ambition. I do not trust either party with “total control”, but how do we move forward when neither will compromise to the degree needed?Respectfully,C.

Actually, we need an opposition party that is more interested in America doing well than in destroying Obama. There are plenty of things they could vote for in good conscience (do the GOP really think that we don’t need a jobs bill?) that they have blocked because they hate Obama so much that they’ll destroy America to destroy him.

What we need campaign finance reform so people can enter the race as representatives for the people and not the special interest who are dumping unlimited amounts of money on a candidate they hand pick for themselves. Thanks Citizens United!

Thank you Harry Reid for not having the stones to change the Senate rules since the senate makes up its own rules. You sir, are a scourge to democracy.

“Harry Reid is to blame for the failure of th Bill in The Senate,”

Well Tigger, as much as I know you are convinced of Reid conspiring with the NRA, I think you’re missing the consequences of a simple majority vote. On an issue like this it would (they promised) lead to a filibuster and they could have intimidated more into voting against it. He took a chance and lost. Look at Reid’s record on gun control, he’s no real friend to the NRA. He has voted yes numerous times in the past on increasing gun control legislation.

Could somebody calm Tigger the heck down so that he won’t be so dang “bouncy” !!!!!!!!!! I personally wish that all the rules, regulations, protocol, and so forth of both the Senate and the House would be stripped down to the Constitution. And no super-majorities need apply……….

No I didn’t forget. I said that in my first post. He didn’t want to risk a filibuster by returning it to a simple majority. The democrats knew it would be a close vote and if they were filibustered they feared they could lose critical support. They gambled and lost.
