Mom, you're a grammar expert... whats the right word to use "which' or "that"? as in? 'this is the book that I borrowed" "this us the book which I borrowed' you want my "expert Opinion' You're so cute! well, mom what the correct way? How should I know?!

Leave it out. âThis is the book I borrowedâ should suffice.

âWhichâ introduces a nonrestrictive clause, and Mom knows it â sheâs just yanking his chain. :-D

Except for one comment educational comments. I thought either which or that would work or a book.

âThatâ and âwhichâ are both used for inanimate objects. âWhoâ is for people. âThis is the book that I borrowedâ is correct. âThis is the book, which I borrowedâ is also correct. The difference is that using the âwhichâ is almost like putting the next part in parentheses. Note the comma before the âwhich.â

I would just say âthis is the book I borrowedâ and skip the whole dilemma.

I was an English teacher of college freshmen, and didnât know about all that âthat" and âwhichâ stuff. Iâd say they are interchangeable in this case, but would use âthatâ because it sounds better. Mebbe I wasnât that great uv a English teacher.
