Hmmm, Petey is calling him imaginary….

Alice, duh. That’s why he’s imaginary.

I love Alice’s hair in the second panel when she’s jumping.

Interesting.

Ernesto’s reality has always been a little ambiguous.

Petey’s grasp on reality is a bit sketchy too.

Besides, everyone has an imaginary friend……………………………………….don’t they?

AHA! Confirmation! Well, at least confirmation from two somewhat unreliable sources.

Maybe Petey is just HOPING Ernesto’s imaginary. I have one of those.

Petey is comfortable having an imaginary friend - it’s the devil he knows. Imagine how he’ll react the day he finally figures out that Ernesto is, in fact, real … . And then later when he discovers, no, Ernesto ISN’T real …

Of course Alice isn’t much help because she’s so busy jumping how can she REALLY see if Ernesto is there or not? Besides, she probably thinks Petey is a bit crazy anyway so she doesn’t care!

Oh, I get it now. Petey is like Edward Norton, and Ernesto is Brad Pitt, only Cul-de-Sac style.

Maybe Petey and his family are imaginary to Ernesto’s family….

I find it hard to believe that Petey is the kind to make friends. Maybe Ernesto is an imaginary acquaintance.

Ok, maybe we do sort of like John Lennon sang about and “Imagine ALL the people”. Forget about that “living life in peace” stuff, just imagine them all.
