Here, they had one school that had year round school for about 10 years. Now after seeing little to no benefits as opposed to a traditional school year, they are going back to traditional school year in the fall.

Wow, even though I knew this, it still surprises me how much shorter many US state’s school years are. No wonder an American high school diploma is considered more the equivalent of Canadian grade 10 or 11, depending on the state. That’s just how much less time kids spend in school down there.
Gee Man: My daughter came back her junior year from a Canadian high school and learned nothing more beyond how to waste time. I still have her scale model Eohippus (“At my age, I am not going to make a papier mache dinosaur”) from Vancouver. Can you imagine high school evolutionary geology in Texas?
Ah, if I’m not careful, this one will get me ranting about how children are being shortchanged by the schools/districts. It seems as though every year, a bit more gets nipped away, all because of “budget issues”. The school district I live in has had “teacher planning days” for the elementary schools for decades. Essentially, that is a half-day for students, once a week. Most recently, I’ve discovered that they now extended these “short days” to the junior and senior high schools, so that the students can “take advantage of our state’s beautiful natural surroundings”. Yeah, right. Like that happens. The district or teachers union just wants the money they’d otherwise have to pay the teachers for that half a day each week. I’m sure that there are good and worth-while unions around somewhere, but I certainly don’t think that the teachers’ union here is one of them. Ooops, I guess I did get my rant on, didn’t I?
When I went to school it went to the end of June. We are/were 180 days required. Graduated from college on June 2, husband on June 3 (same college). This year our college had graduation last weekend.

About now, my Arizona cousins’ kids would already be out of school for the summer until they advance to the next grade in August.

Year around school would be cruel to the teachers, they need time off from the kids.
