Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for May 28, 2013
Transcript:
Arlo: Many countries have a version of Labor Day, often on May first. Arlo: When the holiday was adopted over here, September was chosen. Arlo: This was to avoid any suggestion of unsavory foreign influence... Arlo: And to avoid making summer unofficially eleven months long!

It’s an interesting point that the workers’ movement event being commemorated on May Day happened in the United States.

The Communists stole May Day, the fist salute, and the Internationale from the Socialists. When the mass media became totally corporate tools and Norman Thomas was reduced to campus lectures with no media coverage, the public was brainwashed to think communism and socialism were the same – a view restricted to the USSR, USA, and the “branch-plant” mentality in Canada, nowhere else in the world.
