I think they specifically put a signable outer layer on it. That, or marker technology has just advanced enough to keep up with it.

I don’t know about luck. Have you ever smelled a cast after 12 weeks?

You’d think by now Frazz and Miss Plainwell would have gone to see if Mrs. Olsen and/or Gabriella are OK instead of trading quips.

That should just get Mrs. Olsen through summer vacation.

It’s ok, Mrs. O. I’ll come over and do your gardening for you. As soon as I can find my cane.

I’ve never had a cast. So glad for that. I had a friend that was klutz enough for us both. ;)

Two weeks? When I broke my wrist as a child, I had mine for 6 weeks. Then when I broke it in my 30’s, it was still 6 weeks. I can’t even imagine the stench of 12 weeks. Poor Mrs. Olsen..BTW they still use a plaster wrap that they wet down and wrap the gauze with. You just now have many color choices to choose from. Mine was purple. :-)

My recent cast was some kind of wet layered material that dried around the affected area. Then they put a colored layer over it. When it was time to come off they had a special saw that cut right through it but didn’t cut the skin.

My daughter was at the height of her half-an-inch-a-month growth spurt at 13, broke her shoulder falling from her bike (immediately after breaking her helmet at impact, which saved her—wear your helmets!) and the doctor was stunned that the bone healed in two weeks. But it did. But it was the end of her growth spurt. I guess it all went to her shoulder?

Same experience here, though it was 6 weeks. And 30 years later, I still throw a football better as a lefty.

My cast was on for six weeks, surprisingly short for all three bones broken and a dislocated elbow. Switched to left-handed. Was not allowed to skip out on anything except gym class, and was even required to participate in final exams. You can imagine how detailed the answers to my essay questions could be, as a result of the fact that I hadn’t used my left hand for anything but holding a telephone up until then.
