The weird thing is that those big puffed sleeves were sometimes stuffed with horsehair, to help them hold their shape. Between the 2 sleeves there was often as much or more material than in the bodice.
Surely she was a very plain woman, who may have taken pride in her lack of “procedures” like trimming her eyebrows or having her teeth fixed so she could smile.
What about today’s straight down, parted in the middle uniform hair? They did have greasy stuff then to smooth it down. They didn’t have plastic surgery then, however.
