The Buckets by Greg Cravens for July 11, 2013
Transcript:
The summer reading list has Fahrenheit 451 on it! It's about guys who are burning up all the books in the world! Yeah, til one of 'em realizes that it makes them the bad guys. Oh. I thought the book was about never having to read books again. Y'know... Irony. Oooh... Maybe that is it! You think maybe I'm wrong?

Awesome. I agree that it should be required reading but what better way to get a teenage boy to read a book. When I was a teenager they âhidâ Catch-22 in a resource room rather than put it on the library shelf and you had to really search to find it, like it wasnât supposed to be found. Of course I had to read it.

What are all these Fahrenheit books about? Iâve Seen F 9/11 and thatâs it.
gr8lakesgrl over 11 years ago
Allan, not sure how old you are but the title of Michael Mooreâs book and movie, Fahrenheit 9/11, was merely a play on words. It was taken from the title of Ray Bradburyâs famous (iconic, classic, MUST READ) novel, Fahrenheit 451. Get ye to the library, young man. Or the Kindle store or wherever you find reading material, because itâs now on your summer reading list. ;-)

This strip reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode where a bookwork, played by Burgess Meredith, accidentally survives a nuclear âend-of-the-worldâ and then, at the very end of the episode, breaks his glasses, rendering him unable to read all his glorious books. Putting aside the fact that he wouldnât have survived for much longer anyway, that admittedly powerful ending never made sense to me. He could simply have found an optometrist or opticianâs office and replaced his broken lenses. Certainly not just give up.

Very true⌠I love being here. To answer your question about the books. I donât need to go to the library. My bedroom is practially a library by itself!
Remember âThe Amber Spyglassâ book I told you about? I borrowed that from the library about 8 years ago. Took me ages to get through it as it was such a massive book but I did it!
I think you read it too didnât you???
