Makes more sense than ‘weed whackers’ as they’re mostly used to strim long grass in places you can’t mow, not for dealing with weeds.

‘LOL’ in any form should be eschewed by grownups. Do not try to get down wiv da kids, it’s unbecoming. On NO account (other than illustrative, as here) type ‘lolz’.

We call them “weed eaters”, which makes even less sense – you use them on grass, not weeds, and they certainly don’t eat any of the grass they cut (be nice if they did, though… would make the clean-up that much faster).

Perfect case in point: As part of my email signature I have a quote from Calvin and Hobbes: “Maybe we can make language a complete impediment to understanding.” DONE!

I’ve also heard them called trimmers. That would include trimming grass and weeds.

My favorite term for them is whipper snipper, from an Australian fellow I believe.

What, no potted plants around that could use a drink??
