If you visit the old imperial palace in Kyoto, Japan, you’ll notice that the wooden floors squeak loudly. This “flaw” was intentional during construction centuries ago, to deter infiltrating ninja (and Poncho, I guess).
So why don’t cats have the same problem? Even with bells on their collars they can cross the whole kitchen (now tile, but before that linoleum) without making a sound until the loud MEOW when I trip over the culprit;.
