Old they were! We were told to duck under our old desks during our atomic bomb drill. We would be safe! The stair wells in school had boxes stacked at the bottom labeled Crackers and Powdered Milk to eat after the bomb went off. They actually had radiation symbols on them. Of course we never took this seriously. Who would?
But lots of people made lots of money supplying all that dried milk and boxes of “good for ever”crackers, atomic signs to stick on the walls (we managed to peel some of them off) and scary radio signals to play on the radio. This is only a drill came at the end of the message so you were scared by the beginning. We used to frequently use the term “kiss your ass goodbye” as the ending to “crawl under your desk”. We knew it was BS.
