I love Petey’s vocabulary. What other 8-year-old knows what kitsch is? And Alice has a pretty good handle on “Ew.”

My mom has about thirty lawn gnomes around her yard.

I don’t know about that. Every yard is complete without one.

I have two small gnomes, one of each sex, in my back yard behind the fence so they can’t escape.

Petey is wise, or at any rate smarmy, beyond his years. But I fear for Madeline’s uneven taste! Ew!

I’ll bet that Lawn Gnome has dreams of traveling the world, seeing exotic places and having his picture taken.

As tacky as the lawn gnome is, the vase is far worse. I have a planter left behind by a previous tenant which looks like that. I have trained ivy to grow over it.
