It is poorly phrased. It should be “you can’t eat your cake, and still have it too.”

Solarrhino has the right of it; he won’t have to eat his words.

Seriously, that’s the essence of it: cakes are often visually appealing as well as being tasty treats. Once the cake has been eaten, it’s no longer around to be viewed.

The actual quote is “You can’t eat your cake and have it too.”

Somehow it became backwards. I’ve contested it for years. I mean, how am I going to eat my cake if I don’t have it?

The hint in the last panel is that idioms can be idiotic, but comments like “military intelligence” and"jumbo shrimp" are oxymorons.

Why do we park on a driveway and drive on a parkway?

“Responsible gun-owners.” Most gun owners are responsible for how they use their guns and never harm a single person in their lives. Sometimes use of a gun is the choice between living and being killed or letting someone else be killed by a bigger, meaner opponent. When we consider some places such as Detroit have police response times greater than an hour, you may not wish to wait for the responsible gun-owning police to come save you.-“Florida justice.” Justice isn’t limited to Florida or lacking in Florida. Just consider how a juror recently said how she was wanting to convict a fellow but was constrained by the fact that he had not broken any law. It was bad that a juror WANTED to convict but not unlike millions of others who wanted to convict no matter what the evidence of self-defense. I fail to understand the lynch-mob mentality, but then I was born in Florida and we don‘t have many lynch mobs.- “Ethical Oil” I suspect oil corporations are more ethical and honest than most politicians. They are usually publicly held corporations and all their operations are up for public scrutiny, unlike say Weiner who has to electronically his ethical capabilities. Sometimes people working for oil corporations do unethical things, but singling out oil makes no sense when so many others have such worse records.-“Smart bombs.” If you have to destroy someone, it is better to only kill the one you intend to kill rather than people some distance away. Further, it is a smart buy since it allows you to use one bomb to kill one person or destroy one installation rather than carpet bombing in an attempt to destroy while killing everybody within a few miles of the target.-“Free Market” People freely buying and selling to each other lawful products and services. I’m not sure why you’re opposed to it or else think it never happens.

@DavidHuieGreen I actually knew that and was just joking… of course, I gained my understanding of “military intelligence” from a Piers Anthony Xanth novel…
