“Living Daylights” is likely too small in most newspapers. I had to use the magnifier here and turn my head. “Living Daylights” is a familiar expression from my southern childhood, but I I wonder if something like “tar” (“He got the tar knocked out of him”) would have been better. Other nominees?

An old expression, as in “that movie scared the living daylights out of me”. I used to hear it alot when I was a kid.
