what? youre just gonna ignore the tip jar?
It’s a new phenomenon apparently … EVERYONE deserves a tip. Here’s a tip for those who work retail:
I don’t tip, unless the service is exceptional.Service hasn’t been exceptional at any store since around 1994ish. I remember going into Zellers (the former Canadian store that looked a lot like Target) and going to the shoe department. There, a lady with a smile, and nice genuine personality, asked me to sit on a stool, take off my shoe, and then she measured it. She asked me my favourite colour, then went and got 4 different styles, and brands of shoes in my size and colour, and helped me try them on. She asked me to raise my toe, and to talk around in them, and helped me find “the perfect” pair (that would last 2 months… as I was 10 at the time. LOL)
If you’re on break you shouldn’t even be at the cash register or anywhere on the floor. You have to leave your station. I don’t tip at the cash register since they just ring up your purchases no matter what store you are in.
I only tip waiters and waitresses and small family owned businesses. If you work fast food or retail, you are being paid an hourly wage, just like everyone else. I don’t understand why they believe they are entitled to a tip. If you want more money then educate yourself and find a better paying job.
When I worked in a store while in college, I had someone try to give me a tip and I refused as I didn’t know if I could take it (or if it was a setup) and I had never seen anyone tip anyone working in a store.
