Haven’t thought of this in years: The old guy in the farm house across the road sold all his tools and lawn equipment to his neighbors. Then whenever he needed something he would borrow it from them. Crafty old buzzard! You had to admire his audacity.

THIS IS THE LANGUAGE POLICE! It’s “to lend to Clyde”, not “loan”. “Loan” as a verb is acceptable only for money. (At least that’s what my favorite dictionary says.)
