    Yes. This. I came upon our Cockapoo, Shadow, laying on the living room rug amidst her “treasures” retrieved from the bathroom trash can. “Gaaaa! And you brought them down with YOUR MOUTH! Gaaaa!”After donning a hazmat moon suit and picking up the mess, I got a trash can with the step-on lid.In another case, the trash can in my office generally contains the usual junk mail and printer mistakes, and is left alone. But just blow your nose one time and toss the tissue in the can…

    At one time, we had a Cocker Spaniel that shredded paper, a Rottweiler who ate paper, and now we have a Dachshund who will shred and maybe eat some of it. In all three cases, if you left it laying around where they could reach it, it was fair game. Our trash cans are safe though. They can’t get into the ones in the bathroom and livingroom, and they never tried to get into the kitchen one, which was more tantalizing.

    Our family dog does this, but usually in secret because she knows she’s not supposed to.
