“KERLEAF!” Schulz sure did come up with some pretty original stuff—I even remember in fall 1999, not very long before he ended production on Peanuts, he even used such terms as “fortissimo”-weird, for one of Marcie’s descriptions of Peppermint Patty, based on what fortissimo means—EXTREMELY LOUD, of course. So, same difference, with “Ker-leaf,” used to indicate the sound of Linus’ jumping into a pile of leaves.
We’re in our 50s and my siblings and I still bring up this strip on occasion and laugh over “ker-leaf”. When we were kids we put “Ker-” in front of everything. When mom made lunch it was “ker-lunch”. When dad took us for a ride it was…well you all got the idea…grin..
I think I have this strip it’s funny when Linus said ker-leaf!!!!…and Charlie Brown said ker-leaf?? before that Lucy threw something in the stream and it went ker-splash…wish there were more strips about Snoopy in his new house don’t y’all??!!!!!

I don’t know about the rest of you, but, for some reason, I now feel strangely compelled to play a rousing game of “Ha, Ha. Herman”!

That pile of leaves looked a little small. Ker-ouch sounds more likely.
