Ok. Strawberries. What happens now? They're washed. Eat 'em. That can't be right. Aren't we supposed to... Send them somewhere to be turned into some kind of food? These... Are... Food.
This is her own fault, you know. If she fed the kids actual food, they wouldn’t have these messed up notions. (Wait ’til someone tells him which end of the chicken eggs come from.)
And very good food they are, just like that.They also make wonderful Strawberry Bread (similar to Banana bread). It freezes well and can have that spring/early summer taste all year long.
We once bought a case of strawberries to celebrate Spring, had a friend over for dinner, and you should have seen his eyes bug out when he realized he was being offered an entire box’s worth of berries just for him (pass the sour cream and brown sugar for dipping). His mom had only ever bought one box for her whole family per meal, he was not long out of the poverty of grad school, and the utter decadence of as-many-strawberries-as-you-want at our table became a lifelong good memory for all of us.
