It looks like, in panel 4, Calvin is really mad at the ball. Maybe he “killed” it (deflated it forcefully) before kicking it to Hobbes.

Calvin is determined not to let the football deflate his ego.

How often do we hear sportscasters comment on unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in so-called professional football games with “Well, you have to understand that these are very competitive players and this is a big game and both sides are pumped up.”

Then take a look at the Army-Navy game. For both schools, it’s not a big game. It’s the only game. Tell me that the service academies pick students because they are not competitive. Tell me that there isn’t enough testosterone on the field to float a battleship. Yet you can probably count the number of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in the history of the rivalry on a finger or less.

Can anybody explain why the US and Canadian games are called ’football," since the feet of all but the one player whodoes kickoff and PAT have NO contact with the ball which isnot a ball [sphere]?
