Read an article in the paper the other day about football program in Texas that was no longer going to give out trophy’s to kids just for coming out they would now have to earn them. What a novel concept?
Don’t worry, Calvin. Your federal government is all set to take care of you and Hobbes for the rest of your life. Just ask — they’ll point you in the right direction!
JHC, can you retarded politicos take your crap elsewhere? Instead of understanding the strip for what it means (a subtle lesson in self-initiative), you people (always) have to spout your bile and vomit. Just stop.
humor immediately morphs into an assault on education, welfare programs and government. No wonder there’s so much anger out there, people have forgotten how to laugh.
We all need to be careful not to make sweeping statements attacking today’s teachers, because there are many excellent, highly-dedicated teachers. There are many young people on GoComics who could be wonderful teachers someday, if they aren’t turned off by negative statements about the profession. Unfair, black-and-white statements can become self-fulfilling prophecies which can hurt all of us in the future. For example, we desperately need honest, ethical politicians for all of our futures, but how often do we attack all politicians, using blanket statements, in front of young people?
Calvin has learned early the principle of Non-responsibility. I’m not sure how the balance shifted, but somewhere parents allowed themselves to be cowed into believing that only “experts” could properly raise children. That now has apparently morphed into something straight out of a communist manifesto: that it is the rightful JOB of the “experts” — psychologists, teachers, er, educators, the State (?) — to raise children. The parents who buy into this do less raising than cows in the field. Very convenient; you can have it all. The perfect family picture for your holiday cards and no real work, no real responsibility. Turns my stomach.
You’re too late, bawana! The government has already bankrupted all those programs by trading freebies for votes. You’re gonna be, like the rest of us, on your own. Unless you have some fat-cat government pension like the senators…

Wow, if my first grade kid is smart enough to crank out such a contract, I’d sign it.

She’s right. It won’t be her fault because she is most likely another victim of the crappy education system.
