I’m 55, I don’t know anyone who appoints godparents, and I’ve never knowingly met a godparent. Does this still exist?

Having a godparent to your child or being one to the child of another person, makes you both co-parents, compadres (co-fathers) or comadres (co-mothers).

Hubby and I were godparents to my girlfriend’s son and his oldest friend’s daughter. Now that they’re both grown and he’s passed away, don’t feel the onus of being responsible for either.

OK I never had a godfather let alone a grandgodfather, is it really real?

I chose my own godmother, who has passed away some 30 years ago, that was my bff’s mother. We didn’t meet until I was already grown. She was a great inspiration to me, helped me cope with life’s ups and downs, boosted my low self-esteem, attended my wedding as the mother of the bride when my step-mother chose not attend. She was a God send. So, as an only child I refer to my bff as godsister and her kids call me aunt. This might sound silly to some but, it made me feel better

“Grandgodparent”??? That is so much worse than people who refer to their freinds as aunt and uncle to their kids.
